Beginning of the end

2007 was meant to be the year in which Fremantle were going to make a legitimate challenge for the premiership.
After a preliminary final appearance in 2006 and the acquistion of former Magpie forward Chris Tarrant and Essendon hardman Dean Solomon during trade week, the Dockers according to many good judges had the necessary talent to challenge the likes of Sydney and West Coast.
But with more than a third of the season done and dusted, the Dockers find themselves languishing in 13th place with a disappointing 3-5 win-loss record and seemingly out of the race for a top four spot, which is vital if any side is serious about challenging for the flag.
Since taking over the reigns in 2002, Fremantle coach Chris Connolly has managed to guide the Dockers to two finals series for just the one win - hardly impressive numbers.
Fremantle chairman Rick Hart came out in support of his under siege coach today; "The wheels would have to fall off drastically for Chris not to finish the season," he said.
But Hart also added that Connolly's position would be under review next month during the mid-season split round.
Failure to make the finals this year would all but spell the end for Connolly, with Mark Harvey waiting in the wings to take on a senior coaching role.
Do you think Chris Connolly will be coaching the Dockers in 2008?
Have your say.
