AFL players on an end of season trip have been recruited to try to lure migrants to South Australia.
Port Adelaide, which flew out to London today ahead of their exhibition match against Geelong at The Oval on Saturday will act as ambassadors for the state, according to Treasurer Kevin Foley.
The team will be using the opportunity to promote South Australian job opportunities as part of the South Australia, Make the Move campaign.
“Power players will kick mini-footballs branded with the South Australia. Make the Move logo into the crowd at The Oval,” Mr Foley said.
“They will also join the former Economic Development Board Chairman, Robert Champion de Crespigny AC, as he visits the House of Lords."
“The Aussie Rules match at The Oval is a fantastic opportunity to encourage expats to think about moving home to play a part in the exciting developments taking place in South Australia."
Port Adelaide Chief Executive John James said the club was very excited about the prospect of playing football at The Oval and the trip to London was a great personal development opportunity for players.
“We are also looking forward to promoting our State because it’s important for businesses like ours and indeed all South Australians to attract more people here,” James said.
Port's trip coincides with the SA governments attendance at migration fairs in London, Manchester and Dublin this month.
