The AFL will trial a commercial provider over the next month to provide testing under the AFL's Illicit Drug policy.
Testing of AFL players under the Illicit Drug Policy at club training sessions and while on official club duty over the next month will be tested by staff from a commercial pathology provider.
The testing by a commercial provider is a trial and the testing and analysis and process remains the same for any player detected using illicit drugs.
General Manager of Football Operations, Adrian Anderson, said the AFL and AFLPA were committed to the ongoing fight against illicit drug use and the trial of a commercial tester was part of the ongoing review of the system.
"As a code we have been at the forefront of fighting illicit drugs and we will continue to work with the players, ASADA and our own medicos to improve the way we tackle the ongoing fight against illicit drugs," Anderson said.
