Browne, Milburn to contest
August 5th 2008 02:47
CARTLON youngster Steven Browne and Geelong veteran Darren Milburn will both contest their suspensions handed down by the match review panel at the AFL tribunal on Tuesday night.
The Blues are expected to argue that Browne's clash with Adelaide forward Jason Porplzyia was accidental given that video footage appeared to indicate that Browne's teammate Bret Thornton contributed to the collision by pushing Porplyzia into Browne's path.
Porplyzia was taken from the field unconscious following the incident and also again dislocated his troublesome shoulder as a result. The 23-year-old has bruising on the brain as a result of the clash and is expected to miss a month of football.
The match review panel ruled Browne's actions as negligent conduct, severe impact and high conduct. The 19-year-old could have accepted a three-match ban by pleading guilty but now risks a four-match suspension
Meanwhile, Milburn's tackle on Richmond's Shane Edwards was assessed as reckless conduct, high impact and high contact by the match review panel.
The 31-year-old could have accepted a two-match ban but is now risking a three-match ban.
The Cats are expected to argue that Milburn's tackle was no different to several others which have been given the all-clear this season, including Port Adelaide's Jacob Surjan's tackle on St Kilda veteran Robert Harvey in the very same round which left Harvey concussed.
