Cats crush Crows

GEELONG has reclaimed top spot on the AFL ladder with a convincing 68-point win over Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Friday night.
The Cats outplayed the Crows all over the ground as they cruised to a comprehensive 18.16 (124) to 8.8 (56) win.
Adelaide has now lost its past three and sits in fifth place on the ladder, but a win to Collingwood over Sydney at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night would see them drop to sixth.
James Bartel starred for Geelong with a career-best 41 disposals and 13 marks. He received good support from Corey Enright, Joel Corey and Joel Selwood, who all racked up 30-plus possessions, while Tom Lonergan chimed in with four majors.
Underlining Geelong's dominance was the fact that 11 players had 20 or more disposals.
The Cats stamped their authority on the contest from the opening bounce, winning the contested ball and moving the football quickly through the middle as they piled on four unanswered goals to take a 29-point lead into quarter-time.
Geelong should have been further in front at the first change but failed to make the most of their opportunities in front of goal, booting a wasteful 4.6.
Adelaide was restricted to just one behind for the term - their lowest first quarter score for a decade.
The Crows lifted their intensity in the second term and got their first goal through Jason Porplyzia, who kicked truly from 50m.
But Geelong still remained in control and slammed on five of the next six goals to take a commanding 45-point lead into the main break.
Adelaide had 11 inside 50's to Geelong's one in the opening ten minutes of the third term, but they failed to capitalise on their opportunites.
They were made to pay with goals to Cameron Mooney, Mathew Stokes and Corey extending Geelong's lead to 50 points heading into the final change.
The Cats snuffed out any hope of an Adelaide revival in the final stanza, banging on the first three goals of the term in the space of four minutes.
Adelaide added some respectability to the scoreboard, kicking four of the last five goals but the damage had already been done.
