Cats crush disappointing Dockers

GEELONG has consolidated its place at the top of the AFL ladder with an emphatic 74-point win over Fremantle at Skilled Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Cats were challenged in the opening stanza but dominated from thereonin, slamming on 14 goals to four to cruise to a convincing 18.10 (118) to 6.8 (44) win.
Corey Enright was prolific in the middle with a game-high 37 possessions and two goals. He received good support from impressive youngster Joel Selwood (35 disposals), Joel Corey (35 possessions) and James Bartel (32 disposals).
Tom Longergan benefited from Geelong's dominance in the midfield with four goals while ruckman Brad Ottens chimed in with three majors.
The win was soured somewhat for the Cats with star midfielder Gary Ablett Jnr and tagger Cameron Ling suffering injuries in the first half. Both failed to take any further part in the match.
Ablett hobbled from the ground just before half time after standing on the foot of Ryan Crowley and rolling his right ankle, while Ling copped an elbow to the jaw from Fremantle veteran Dean Solomon that is sure to sideline the former Essendon premiership player for several weeks.
It was initially feared that Ling had suffered a broken cheekbone but that was later assessed as bruising and swelling.
Both sides struggled to find an avenue to goal in a scrappy opening term but two late majors to Lonergan and a goal from Enright after the siren gave Geelong a handy 13-point lead at quarter-time.
The Cats extended their advantage in the second term, kicking three unanswered goals to take a commanding 33-point lead into the main break.
Even without Ablett and Ling the Cats continued to dominate as they slammed on the first four goals of the third term to put the result beyond doubt.
Geelong didn't take their foot off the pedal in the final stanza, piling on five goals to one to record their 14th win of the season.
