Classy Cats crush Swans
May 9th 2010 06:44
GEELONG has continued its dominance over Sydney with a crushing 67-point win at Skilled Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Cats broke the game open with a five-goal-to-two third quarter before romping to a 19.12 (126) to 9.5 (59) victory.
It was Geelong's seventh straight win over the Swans.
The result was also the Cats' fifth victory of the season and 19th on the trot at the Cattery.
The loss is a major reality check for Sydney who headed into the clash on a five-match winning streak.
Gary Ablett was best afield with 38 possessions, ten clearances, eight inside 50's and two goals while mature-age recruit James Podsiadly booted five majors at Skilled Stadium for the third time.
Paul Chapman (27 disposals, three goals) and Joel Selwood (26) were also impressive while Travis Varcoe managed three goals.
Matthew Scarlett was superb in his return from a back injury, restricting Swans spearhead Daniel Bradshaw to just one goal while Harry Taylor kept Adam Goodes quiet.
For Sydney, rebounding defenders Tadhg Kennelly (25 touches) and Rhyce Shaw (20) tried hard all day while Heath Grundy held Cameron Mooney goalless.
