Ben Cousins just moments ago was suspended from the AFL for 12 months for bringing the game into disrepute as well as conduct unbecoming.
Chairman Mike Fitzpatrick said the situation was a sad day for football.
In a press conference at AFL House Ben said that the media was miss informed about his rehabilitation.
He said he was further down the track than what many people believe.
He finished with an apology to the AFL, the players and the supporters.
He also thanked his friends and family for all their support.
It is unknown if Ben will continue his football career.
