Cox right to play

March 17th 2009 06:36
WEST COAST ruckman Dean Cox is a certain starter for the round one clash against Brisbane despite nursing a broken cheek.

Cox fractured his cheekbone in the Eagles' pre-season win over Adelaide in Alice Springs last month and has not played since.

But Eagles coach John Worsfold said the fracture is only minor and that Cox would be right to face the Lions.

"Coxy has a small, little fracture and we had medical opinion that said surgery wasn't required," Worsfold said.

"(But) he's done enough work and could have gone straight back out onto the ground and kept playing if he had of wished, so it shows how well he's ready for Round 1," Worsfold said.

Worsfold also said he was confident that utility Andrew Embley (knee) and Adam Hunter (shoulder) would be available despite not playing any matches during the pre-season.

"He's (Hunter) improved a fair bit over the weekend," he said.

"He had some more treatment last Friday which has made a difference so we're certainly hopeful that he'll feel pretty fresh at training later this week and declare himself available to play as well."
