Crows pip Blues

AN undermanned Adelaide side has recorded a thrilling one-point win over a virtually full-strength Carlton outfit in a practice match at Visy Park on Friday.
Despite missing a host of key players including Andrew McLeod, Scott Thompson, Nathan van Berlo, Jason Porplyzia, Brad Symes, Ivan Maric, Tyson Edwards, Brett Burton and Bernie Vince, the Crows led at every change and eventually prevailed 12.11 (83) to 11.16 (82).
Adelaide's forward line - led by Kurt Tippett - looked far more potent than the Blues who continue to experiment as they attempt to fill the void left by Brendan Fevola.
Tippett kicked three goals and took a spectacular mark in the second quarter. He was well supported by youngsters Jared Petrenko and Taylor Walker who chipped in with two majors apiece while Trent Hentschel showed some good signs.
Crows skipper Simon Goodwin, Brent Reilly and David Mackay were prolific ball-winners.
For Carlton, Setanta O'hAilpin booted three goals but Jarrad Waite struggled to have an impact up forward in his second game back from a knee reconstruction while Lachlan Henderson also failed to fire.
Former Demon Brock McLean didn't win much of the football while ruckman Robert Warnock also had little influence on the contest.
Adelaide led by as much as 15 points in the final stanza but the Blues rallied to level the scores at the 24-minute mark.
However, a late behind from Goodwin consigned Brett Ratten's men to their third loss in four pre-season hit-outs.
CARLTON: 1.4, 4.7, 8.11, 11.16 (82)
ADELAIDE: 3.5, 6.7, 10.8, 12.11 (83)
GOALS: Carlton: O'hAilpin 3, Robinson 2, Betts 2, Gibbs, Murphy, McLean, Waite
