Crows to consider new surgery for Burton

July 14th 2008 03:37
ADELAIDE forward Brett Burton may undergo radical knee surgery in a bid to keep his AFL career alive.

Burton is out for the remainder of the season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Saturday's 32-point loss to Collingwood at the MCG.

A knee reconstruction normally sidelines a player for at least nine months but Sydney's Nick Malceski was able to return in just three months thanks to the new form of surgery, which uses a synthetic fibre to help repair the ligament damage.

Adelaide football manager John Reid said the club was considering the surgery for the 30-year-old forward.

"It's a consideration, but that's all I can say at this stage," Reid said.

"First, we've got to get all the details about this new operation.

"Secondly, there's a fair bit of what Brett wants to do."

Meanwhile, fellow forward Jason Porplyzia, who suffered a dislocated shoulder in the first term of Saturday's match will see a specialist on Monday.

The Crows remain unsure as to whether or not Porplyzia can put off surgery until the end of the season.
