MELBOURNE will aim to wipe off more than half of their $5 million debt at a function to to be held next month.
The club's fightback campaign, dubbed "Debt Demolition", will be an MCG function on August 5 where influential supporters will be urged to dig deep at a "150 Foundation Heroes" dinner.
The dinner will cost $1000 a ticket and guests will be expected to at least contribute a further $5000 to become a "150 Foundation Hero".
Past and present Melbourne players will be involved, with organisers also promising a "virtual MCG experience".
Greg Romanes, head of the Demons fundraising arm, the Red and Blue Foundation, said in the call-to-arms letter that the function represented a golden opportunity for supporters to give something back to the club.
"You are no doubt aware that currently the MFC has an unworkable debt level that is close to $5,000,000," Romanes states in the letter.
"As Jim (Stynes) has said, Melbourne Football Club is in a precarious position. This is your chance to give back something to the club that has given us all so much enjoyment over the years and ensure it is here for generations to come - please take advantage of this opportunity.
"Details of how the group (150 Heroes) will be remembered for posterity will be revealed on the night and all funds raised will go directly to debt reduction."
Melbourne announced the "Debt Demolition" campaign today as July 10 is the exact date of the club's 150th birthday.
