JIM Stynes' rise to the presidency has paid instant dividends for Melbourne with the club hitting an all-time membership reccord.
As of June 30, the club had signed a total of 29,619 members, surpassing the previous record of 28,077 members set in 2007.
The increase in membership has come in the three weeks following the arrival of Stynes and his new board. In the final three weeks before the 30 June cut-off an additional 2,295 members pledged their support to the club.
Stynes said the membership record was something to be proud of.
"We thank all of our 29,619 members, who have pledged their support to the Melbourne Football Club in our 150th anniversary year," he said.
"This caps off an exciting three-week period. It's a milestone achievement to break the record that everyone at the club can be proud of."
Stynes said the increase in members was an indication that the club's supporters were confident that coach Dean Bailey was steering the club in the right direction.
"This is also a clear indication that our members have belief and faith in our on-field future under the guidance of coach Dean Bailey."
Despite such a big increase in membership numbers, Stynes said the club won't rest on its laurels.
"There is no doubt that 29,619 members is a fantastic base to be working with, and we will aim for a bigger and better result in 2009."
