ESSENDON has bounced back from a 10-goal loss to Collingwood on Anzac Day with a 43-point demolition of Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday night.
The Bombers led at every change and kicked 4.7 while keeping the Hawks scoreless in the last quarter to record a 15.16 (106) to 9.9 (63) victory.
It was the Dons' second win of the season while Hawthorn slips to 1-5.
Highlighting Essendon's commitment to the contest was the fact that they laid a staggering 107 tackles and won the contested possession count 127-107.
Nathan Lovett-Murray racked up a game-high 31 possessions and was well supported by Brent Stanton (30), Jason Winderlich (28), skipper Jobe Watson (28) - in his 100th match - and Brent Prismall (28).
Dustin Fletcher kept Jarryd Roughead goalless and provided plenty of drive from defence with 25 touches while Henry Slattery kept the dangerous Cyril Rioli to just 12 disposals.
Bombers young gun Michael Hurley kicked four goals against the Hawks for the second consecutive time.
Lance Franklin was Hawthorn's best with five majors while Clinton Young was a busy contributor with 22 possessions and two goals.
