STAR St Kilda defender Sam Fisher will be out for up to a month after injuring his ankle in the Saints' 40-point loss to the Western Bulldogs in the NAB Cup grand final at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
Scans on Sunday revealed the injury was more serious than first thought.
Fisher was a key cog in a St Kilda defence which was the best in the AFL last season, playing 24 of a possible 25 matches.
In some good news for the Saints, classy midfielder Lenny Hayes will be right to play in the round one clash against Sydney at ANZ Stadium on March 27 after missing the grand final with a calf injury.
