Franklin to miss Pies clash

HAWTHORN star forward Lance Franklin will miss Saturday night's vital clash against Collingwood at the MCG after failing in his bid to have his one-match suspension overturned at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.
The 2008 Coleman Medallist was found guilty of rough conduct for his high bump on Western Bulldogs veteran Jason Akermanis during Sunday's match at Etihad Stadium.
Franklin argued that his contact with Akermanis was unavoidable and that he did everything he could to minimise the impact but after deliberating for 15 minutes the three-man jury upheld the match review panel's decision.
Due to a two-match ban for a similar bump on Richmond midfielder Ben Cousins in round 21 last year, Franklin couldn't have escaped with a reprimand with an early guilty plea.
Meanwhile, North Melbourne's Andrew Swallow will be $2400 lighter in the pocket after unsuccessfully challenging his charge of making negligent contact with umpire Scott McLaren.
