Franklin to miss
February 19th 2009 06:06
HAWTHORN star Lance Franklin will miss the reigning premier's first NAB Cup match against Melbourne in Tasmania on Saturday with a thumb injury.
But the Hawks say Franklin, who sustained the injury at training this week, is expected to make his first appearance of 2009 as early as the second round of the pre-season competiton.
Hawthorn club spokesman Clinton Bown said on Thursday that Franklin was set to play against the Demons until his mishap at training.
"He jarred his thumb in a marking drill," Bown said.
"But he had a scan and everything is fine and we were only likely to play him in two games over the pre-season anyway so we are looking at potentially next week (for Franklin to return)."
