Gibson out for up to 12 weeks

HAWTHORN has suffered a major blow with key defender Josh Gibson ruled out for up to 12 weeks with a hamstring injury.

The 26-year-old sustained the injury in the first quarter of the club's 16-point loss to the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium last Sunday.

Hawks football operations manager Mark Evans said Gibson would undergo surgery on Tuesday evening.

"After consultation last night and this morning with our club medical staff and surgeon, it was determined that a surgical procedure will deliver a better outcome than non-surgical options," Evans said.
