Gumbleton could require surgery

ESSENDON has suffered a major blow with promising young forward Scott Gumbleton's back injury worse than first thought.
Scans revealed that the injury prone 20-year-old has a bulging disc in his back.
"The bulging disc in Scott's back is impinging on nerves," Essendon football operations manager Paul Hamilton said.
"The decision now lies between taking the conservative approach and giving him a period of rest or having surgery which would sideline him for at least 12 weeks."
The number two draft pick in the 2006 national draft has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, only managing five games in two years at the club.
