Hall leads Dogs to victory

April 11th 2010 08:47

WESTERN BULLDOGS spearhead Barry Hall has led his side to a 16-point victory over Hawthorn at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Hall kicked four of his six goals in the final stanza as the Bulldogs prevailed 14.16 (100) to 12.12. (84).

It was the Dogs' second successive win while the Hawks have now suffered back-to-back losses.

Both sides sustained injuries in what was a physical contest. Hawthorn midfielder Jordan Lewis was stretchered off after a sickening collision with Bulldogs defender Jarrod Harbrow but remarkably made it back onto the field in the final term.

Bulldogs defender Ryan Hargrave also suffered concussion after a bump by Hawks ruckman Brent Renouf while Dogs veteran Jason Akermanis and Hawthorn defender Josh Gibson injured hamstrings.

Late in the game Western Bulldogs tagger Liam Picken and Hawthorn's Brent Guerra sustained ankle injuries.

Matthew Boyd was instrumental in the win with a game-high 35 possessions while Ryan Griffen (34), Daniel Cross (28), Shaun Higgins (27) and Adam Cooney (27) were also influential.

Brian Lake did a superb job on Lance Franklin, keeping the Hawks star goalless while Lindsay Gilbee provided plenty of drive from defence with 25 quality disposals.

For Hawthorn, Cyril Rioli and Jarryd Roughead booted four goals apiece while skipper Sam Mitchell and Luke Hodge collected 34 touches each,
