RECENTLY retired two-time Geelong premiership skipper Tom Harley has joined the AIS-AFL Academy as an assistant coach and mentor.
The appointment of the 31-year-old comes following the additions of ex-Sydney forward Michael O'Loughlin, former Essendon captain Matthew Lloyd and former Melbourne champion Garry Lyon to the AFL's talented player programs
Harley, who called it quits after the Cats won this year's premiership, said he was looking forward to working with the game's young batch of talent.
"After 11 seasons with the Geelong Football Club I feel I have a lot to offer the game’s elite young players," Harley said.
"I am excited about the challenge of working with young players to become better footballers and assisting in their development as leaders off the field."
AFL game development general manager David Matthews had nothing but praise for Harley.
"Throughout his career, Tom has established himself as one of the AFL's most respected players, setting a positive example both on and off the field," Matthews said.
"His leading role in the anti-violence 'Just Think' campaign is testament to his strong character and ability as a positive role model for our emerging talent."
Harley will attend his first AIS-AFL Academy camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on November 28.
