Hawks right in the hunt: Mitchell
July 28th 2008 04:17
THE race for the 2008 premiership is far from over according to Hawthorn skipper Sam Mitchell.
Mitchell was proud of the Hawks' commitment and effort in their 11-point loss to reigning premiers Geelong at the MCG last Friday night.
The Cats have been backed into $1.60 favouritism in some markets to secure back-to-back premierships after just one loss so far this season but Mitchell said the narrow defeat showed his team was well and truly in the mix to secure this year's flag.
"I think it shows we're in the ballpark," Mitchell said.
"We're not miles off it."
"Geelong were too good for us on the night and we made too many mistakes to be competitive. We need to try and improve those things. We don't just want to mix it with the top side, we want to be able to beat them."
