Hawks suffer double blow

HAWTHORN has suffered a double blow ahead of the 2010 season with ruckman Simon Taylor and key midfielder Brad Sewell sidelined with injuries.
Taylor broke his leg in the club's 40-point loss to North Melbourne in a practice at North Ballarat Oval on Saturday while Sewell sustained a broken collarbone.
Hawks football operations manager Mark Evans said Taylor would be out for the next four months.
"Simon underwent surgery this morning to have a plate inserted to repair a fractured fibula," Evans said.
"Doctors have advised it will be two months until Simon can resume activity and it will be around four months until he will be available to play again."
The loss of Taylor leaves Hawthorn severely depleted in the ruck department given that Robert Campbell retired at the end of last season and youngster Max Bailey won't play this year after undergoing his third knee reconstruction.
The extent of Sewell's injury remains unknown.
"He will have further assessment with a specialist later this week, and we will know more then, but he will miss the first few weeks of the season," Evans said.
