BRISBANE has consolidated its place in the top eight with a 46-point win over West Coast at the Gabba on Saturday night.
The Lions set up their ninth win of the season with a six-goal-to-two second term, eventually prevailing 17.11 (113) to 9.13 (67).
Bradd Dalziell was impressive on debut for Brisbane with 32 disposals. Luke Power (31 possessions) and Simon Black (27 disposals) were also damaging while Daniel Bradshaw and Jonathan Brown booted four and three goals respectively.
For West Coast, Dean Cox continued his rich vein of form with a game-high 36 disposals, 11 marks and 27 hit-outs. Andrew Embley (34 possessions) was a busy contributor while Ashley Hansen worked hard all night, finishing the match with 23 disposals, 13 marks and two goals.
The Eagles started brightly and kicked the first goal of the match through Quinten Lynch but the Lions ability to find a marking target inside 50 proved to be the difference between the two sides as Brisbane slammed on five of the next seven to take a 13-point lead into the first change.
West Coast closed to within five points in the second term when Lynch kicked his second.
But that only served to spark the Lions into action, who piled on the last five goals of the quarter to take a commanding 35-point lead into the main break.
Brisbane kicked the first three goals of the third term and looked on course for a percentage boosting win, with the margin blowing out to 54 points at the ten-minute mark.
But West Coast refused to give in and hit back with the last three majors of the term, including two to Hansen to reduce the deficit to 33 points heading into the final change.
The Eagles failed to maintain their intensity in the final term as the Lions kicked the first three goals through Ashley McGrath, Anthony Corrie and Bradshaw to put the result beyond doubt.
