Magpies duo free to play

July 28th 2008 08:02
COLLINGWOOD small forwards Alan Didak and Leon Davis are free to play in Friday night's crucial clash against Hawthorn at the MCG after being cleared by the match review panel on Monday.

The news is a major boost for the Magpies who have lost four of their past six and could drop out of the eight if they lose to the Hawks.

Didak was reported for striking Essendon's Henry Slattery but the panel ruled that the contact made was as a result of a pushing motion rather than a strike and was below the impact required to constitute a report.

Davis had been booked for making forceful contact from front-on against Essendon's Jobe Watson but the panel ruled it was not forceful and was only caused by Davis being pushed from behind by another player.

In other tribunal news, Essendon's Scott Lucas was cleared of striking Collingwood defender Harry O'Brien. The panel ruled that Lucas' strike was below that required to constitute a reportable offence.

Port Adelaide's Nick Lower was also cleared of making forceful front-on contact against Fremantle's Brett Peake. The match review panel deemed that Lower approached the contest bent down and with his right hand down in an effort to gain control of the ball. Although Lower did make high contact with Peake, he had no realistic alternative way to contest the ball.

Melbourne midfielder Lynden Dunn was the only player to be charged by the panel this week.

Dunn, who was reported for twice striking Kangaroos' star Brent Harvey in the space of a minute at the MCG on Sunday, had one charge thrown out but the other one was ruled a level two striking offence.

The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point), drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match ban. Dunn has no existing good or bad record and can accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.
