GEELONG v SYDNEY
WHERE & WHEN: 2.10PM, Saturday 19 August
TV & RADIO: Foxtel, 3AW, K-Rock, ABC Radio
HEAD TO HEAD: Played 200 - Won: Geelong - 107, Sydney - 93
LAST TIME: Sydney 15.17 (107) def. Geelong 13.7 (85) Round 5, 2006, at Telstra Stadium
TAB SPORTSBET: Geelong $2.35, Sydney $1.55.
Geelong's finals chances were all but snuffed out last Sunday at the Telstra Dome at the hands of St Kilda, and while they remain a mathematical chance of seeing September action, they need other results to go their way and quite frankly don't deserve to be there.
To say the Cats have been disappointing this season is an understatement, especially when you consider they won the NAB Pre-season cup and were installed as flag favourites after round two.
The Cats seemed to have turned the corner after an encouraging win at the Gabba a fortnight ago; their first at the venue since 1993, but a meek display against the Saints saw all that good work go out the window.
A lot of the attention this week has been on Geelong midfielder Josh Hunt and his supposed lack of courage in going back into a pack to take a contested mark.
The fact that this has been the biggest story down at Geelong this week hides some deeper flaws within the club.
There is no questioning that the Cats have a solid playing list, but it seems that those qualities that can't be measured; heart, drive and passion are missing in spades.
With finals all but out of the question, and club legend Peter Riccardi annoucning his retirement during the week, the Cats have nothing but pride to play for.
Meanwhile the Swans are going about their business in typically quiet fashion.
While most of the attention when it comes to premiership talk has focused on the Crows and the Eagles, Sydney has quietly snuck under the radar and sit in third position; the same spot from which they won last year's flag.
The Swans are peaking at the right time of the year, and out of favour forward Nick Davis misses out once again in a side that has won their past four matches.
However, this represents a danger game for the Swans, playing at Skilled Stadium; a ground they haven't won at since 1999.
There is no doubting the Cats will come out firing in Peter Riccardi's farewell, but with Swans big man Adam Goodes in scintillating form over the past month, Sydney should have too much class and consolidate a spot in the top four. Sydney by 29 points.
