LAST TIME: Kangaroos 15.12 (102) d Hawthorn 11.14 (80), Round 6, 2006 at Telstra Dome
The Hawks were very impressive last weekend against Essendon as they piled on 16 goals in the first half- admittedly against a side firmly entrenched in the bottom two, but such a start against any side is good in anyone's books.
Hawthorn have now strung two wins together for the first time since the opening month of the season and skipper Richie Vandenberg said the club will be looking to make every post a winner in the final two rounds and gain some momentum into the 2007 season.
Just to highlight how well the Hawks are travelling at the moment is the fact that they look set to go into today's game against the Roos at Aurora with an unchanged line-up.
The Hawks two leading goal-kickers in last weekend's 18-point win over the Bombers; Jarryd Roughead and Lance Franklin are both under 20 and will only get better the more football they get under their belt.
There are some exciting times ahead for the faithful down at Glenferrie Oval.
Having said that, both of the club's wins have come against the 15th and 16th placed sides, so there is still a question mark over how far the Hawks have really come.
Today's clash represents an opportunity to for the club to show the football world that the Hawks are a side on the rise that is capable of playing consistent football and stringing wins together.
Like Hawthorn, the Kangaroos are looking towards next year, with a bulk of their stars going under the knife in a bid to be right for pre-season training in October.
The Roos will welcome back hardman Glenn Archer, who makes his long awaited return from a shoulder injury and include Jade Rawlings and debutant Brad Moran.
Rawlings will be playing his last AFL game against his old side in his home state, and it is bound to be an emotional day, but Roos coach Dean Laidley has made it abundantly clear that the club will be focused on winning a game of football.
Moran's inclusion represents another wonderful AFL story, having only moved to Australia four years ago from England, the 19-year-old will make his debut in the no.18 guernsey made famous by club legend Wayne Carey.
The Kangaroos have been in good form in the second half of the season, having won five of their past nine, unlucky to go down to the Lions by a point in round 15 and should of disposed of the Demons last Sunday had it not been for some inaccurate kicking in front of goal.
This promises to be an exciting game to watch, but you would expect the Hawks to have to much class through the midfield against a Roos side minus Shannon Grant and skipper Adam Simpson. Hawthorn by 45 points.
