McGrath free to play

February 16th 2009 06:50
BRISBANE small forward Ashley McGrath is free to play in the Lions' NAB Cup quarter-final clash against Essendon at Telstra Dome on February 27 after escaping with a reprimand for his front-on bump on St Kilda's Brendon Goddard.

The match review panel assessed the incident as negligent conduct, low impact and high contact, which equates to 125 points or a one-match suspension.

But this falls to 70.31 points and a reprimand because of his previous clean record over the past five years.

In other tribunal news, St Kilda's Jarryn Geary was cleared over an incident involving Brisbane's Travis Johnstone due to a lack of video evidence while Fremantle defender Antoni Grover was found to have made a legitimate attempt to spoil when he made contact to the face of Richmond's Dean Polo in a marking contest during Sunday night's NAB Cup match at Subiaco Oval.

Meanwhile the AFL has given the field umpire involved in the collision with St Kilda's Robert Eddy the all-clear.

The league said the clash between rookie field umpire Ben Ryan and Eddy - which left Eddy facing a month on the sidelines with a knee injury - was accidental.
