ESSENDON veteran Mal Michael will retire from AFL football at the end of the season.
Michael, a three-time premiership player with the Brisbane Lions, has played 34 matches for Essendon after joining the club in 2007 after 140 games at the Lions and 61 at Collingwood.
Michael retired at the end of 2006 before controversially joining the Bombers via the pre-season draft in 2007.
