Milburn cleared over bump

GEELONG dual premiership player Darren Milburn has been cleared over a bump on Port Adelaide veteran Chad Cornes which left the defender with a broken nose.
The incident occurred in the second quarter of the Cats' 95-point win over the Power at Skilled Stadium on Sunday with Cornes in possession of the ball and Milburn moving towards him committed to applying pressure.
The match review panel said Milburn could not avoid contact after Cornes handballed the football to a teammate and that the Geelong veteran braced himself with primary contact between the duo being made body to body before Milburn's head made incidental contact to Cornes' face.
It was deemed by the panel that the force of the bump was not excessive, Milburn did not use an elbow as part of his bumping action and that Cornes could reasonably expect contact in the passage of play.
Meanwhile, the match-day report laid against Melbourne midfielder Brent Moloney for striking Richmond youngster Ben Nason was thrown out with the MRP ruling that contact was not high.
Essendon's Dustin Fletcher was looked at over contact made to West Coast key forward Josh Kennedy but no further action was taken with the match review panel ruling that Fletcher had made a realistic attempt to gather possession of the ball when contact was made while Hawthorn's Carl Peterson was cleared over a clash with Collingwood youngster Sharrod Wellingham thanks to the same ruling.
Wellingham was cleared over a clash with Hawthorn vice-captain Luke Hodge with the panel deeming that the contact made was not unreasonable in the circumstances.
Western Bulldogs defender Ryan Hargrave escaped punishment over a clash with Brisbane utility Jared Brennan with the MRP ruling that the force of the impact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence while a lack of clear video evidence meant no action was taken against Port Adelaide on-baller Kane Cornes over a clash with Geelong's Corey Enright.
Richmond's Daniel Jackson and classy Cats forward Steve Johnson can accept reprimands for striking Melbourne skipper James McDonald and Power forward Robbie Gray respectively but will be risking one-match suspensions if they elect to contest their charges at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.
Star St Kilda midfielder Leigh Montagna can also accept a reprimand for tripping Fremantle's Des Headland but unlike Jackson and Johnson he won't be risking a one-game ban if he decides to face the tribunal while Carlton young gun Matthew Kreuzer can accept a $900 fine for making negligent contact with a field umpire with an early guilty plea.
