Minson sorry for sledge

WESTERN BULLDOGS ruckman Will Minson has made a public apology to Port Adelaide midfielder Kane Cornes after it was revealed he had made comments about the player's son and wife during Saturday night's game at TIO Stadium in Darwin.
Cornes' son Eddy Jack, who turns two in September, was born with heart defects and has had a number of operations in the past year.
Sources said Minson made reference to Cornes being selfish for playing and that he should have been at home with his sick son, and that Cornes apparently returned fire with a comment about Minson's deceased father.
Unbeknown to Minson, Cornes didn't arrive in Darwin until the day of the game because his wife Lucy had delivered the couple's second son on Friday.
Speaking on Fox Sports On the Couch program, Minson said he regretted the incident.
"On the weekend I said something which I am deeply sorry for and I apologise wholeheartedly for," Minson said.
"It was an incident which occurred in the heat of battle and I am sorry for what I said."
The 23-year-old attempted to contact Cornes after the game and is believed to have received a blistering phone call from his brother Chad later that night.
"I attempted to contact Kane as soon as I could after the game, but he didn't answer the phone," Minson said.
"I left a message and apologised wholeheartedly for what was said and I believe the club has also made contact with Peter Rohde (Power's football manager) and Kane Cornes and they have also accepted the apology."
Minson refused to reveal what was said in the incident or if he was provoked.
Port released a statement confirming the incident and saying that no further action would be taken.
"We confirm there was an incident on Saturday night during the game involving Kane Cornes and Will Minson," the club said.
"The matter has been resolved between the players. As far as Kane and the club are concerned, the matter is now closed."
