Mumford suspended for two matches

May 11th 2010 09:41

SYDNEY ruckman Shane Mumford has been suspended for two matches by the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night for his tackle on former Geelong teammate Gary Ablett which left the reigning Brownlow medallist with 'mild visual disturbance' and a headache.

Mumford was risking a three-game ban by contesting the rough conduct charge but escaped with a two-match suspension after the tribunal downgraded his conduct from reckless to negligent.

The loss of the 23-year-old is a significant blow for the Swans given that their other ruck recruit in Mark Seaby is out for up to three months with an ankle injury.
