WEST COAST ruckman Nic Naitanui has earned the round four nomination for the NAB Rising Star award for his impressive performance against Essendon at Subiaco Oval last Friday night.
The exciting 19-year-old - who is the favourite for the award - was a standout in the Eagles' first win of 2010 with 17 hit-outs and 13 possessions - 10 of which were contested - and five tackles in his 14th senior appearance.
Since making his AFL debut in round 12 last year, Naitanui has become a cult figure in the West, thrilling crowds with his extraordinary athleticism.
"Nic is a very exciting developing player and is certainly capturing the imagination of the public," West Coast coach John Worsfold said.
"He is still learning, but has a great appetite for the game, so he's a great young player to coach."
"We knew when we drafted Nic that he had some special qualities and we are already seeing some of those qualities on display."
From Midvale Junior Football Club, Naitanui was taken by the Eagles with pick two in the 2008 national draft.
