The AFL Players' Association Mike Fitzpatrick scholarship has enhanced its reputation as an ideal pathway for future AFL stars, with nine scholarship holders selected by club's at the 2006 NAB AFL Draft.
The nine AFLPA Mike Fitzpatrick Scholarship holders to be drafted in 2006 included top-10 selections Lachlan Hansen, Travis Boak, Mitch Thorp and Joel Selwood.
Adelaide's first selection, No 14 overall, James Sellar and Queensland youngster Albert Proud who was taken by the Brisbane Lions with pick No. 22 were also scholarship holders in 2006.
The selections of Western Australian youngster Leroy Jetta, Bachar Houli, Matthew Tyler and Boak in this year's draft brings to nine out of a total of twelve 2005 AFLPA Mike Fitzpatrick Scholarship holders to have gone on to be drafted by an AFL club.
Since the introduction of the Mike Fitzpatrick scholarships in 2001, 37 out of 57 of recipients have been drafted to an AFL club.
AFLPA General Manager of Player Development, Steve Alessio said the key aim of the scholarship program was to reinforce the value of a balanced life on and off the field.
"The scholarships are a way of encouraging young players to complete their schooling while giving them every chance of succeeding in football," he said.
Previous scholarship recipients include West Coast pair Beau Waters and Sam Butler and Fremantle midfielder Byron Schammer.

I might ask the Titans about advertising, but excuse my ignorance, but did you just e-mail your target advertisers and ask about promoting their website, and what kind of commission do you get (if you don't feel comfortable answering than that's cool!)?
I am kinda new to the whole approaching advertisers gig, so I am just hoping for some tips as to what to do.
Thanks heaps for your input thus far.

On a side note, we are thinking of starting up a AFL/NRL related website outside the Orble network for next year-in the vein of Sportal.
Not sure what your journalistic background is, but would you be interested

I have a BA in Journalism, and have my ABN for freelance work - just let me know what you have planned in the New Year, as I should pretty much know one way or the other.
On a side note - do you have anything to do with Sportal? I have approached them a number of times (by both post and mail), and I have not received one reply to any of my queries? What's there go?
I don't care if they think my proposal was pathetic, but at least just send a reply saying the usual "we regret to inform you.........." .
Thanks for the advertising info. and advice, too!

Just thought even a 'sorry buddy, your crap' would have been nice!
But in saying that, the same applies to www.nrl.com.au - same process for no reply!!
