No surgery for Walker

CARLTON utility Andrew Walker will not require surgery on his injured shoulder with the club opting to go down the path of rehabilitation.
Walker, who injured his right shoulder during training at Visy Park on Friday, met with his surgeon and club medical staff on Tuesday where it was determined that surgery would not be necessary.
Carlton football operations manager Steven Icke said the club would monitor Walker's progress and ease him back into training.
"We will reassess his shoulder in a week or so when he is ready to return to training," Icke said.
"Andrew, his surgeon and our medial team are comfortable with this decision and we will monitor Andrew's progress carefully."
"At this stage it was determined that surgery would not be part of Andrew’s rehabilitation and we are confident that the program put in place will address the injury."
Meanwhile, Collingwood remains confident that classy forward Paul Medhurst will play a part in the club's NAB Cup campaign despite suffering a stress-related foot injury.
The 27-year-old, who has been sidelined for most of the summer with a back complaint, has been placed on a modified training program.
Collingwood football manager Geoff Walsh said the injury wasn't too serious.
“He had a back problem and now he’s pulled up a little bit sore in his foot,” Walsh said.
“He probably tried to do a little bit too much, too soon but we’d expect Paul would be up and going and available to play in the last couple of weeks of the NAB series.
