Pies moving on: Malthouse
August 8th 2008 05:05
COLLINGWOOD coach Mick Malthouse says a 'difficult' week for the club will not affect it ahead of Saturday night's must-win clash against St Kilda at the MCG.
The eighth-placed Magpies take on the seventh-placed Saints minus stars Heath Shaw and Alan Didak. The pair have been suspended by the club for the remainder of the season following a drink-driving scandal earlier in the week.
But Malthouse said the controversy and media scrutiny had not been a distraction for the players.
"It's one of those weeks that happen in football. It's only how big it has been with the press, let's not kid ourselves," Malthouse said.
"I've seen players being squirted with capsicum spray take up page 35 of the (Herald) Sun."
"It's only how big it is outside (the club). Inside, it's simply one we prefer behind us, which it is, we move forward, we open the door for young players, it's fantastic."
"They've (the players) moved on very well. I have been delighted with the way they have been able to handle it."
"People are very resilient. We don't want to lose sight of what we are here for. We are here to play football which we are doing tomorrow evening and the player group got themselves very focused on that very early in the week."
