Pies too good for Eagles

COLLINGWOOD has booked its place in the second round of the NAB Cup with a convincing 62-point win over West Coast at Subiaco Oval on Saturday night.
The Magpies fielded an extremely strong side and the gap in class between the two teams was evident as the Pies cruised to an emphatic 1.15.17 (116) to 3.3.9 (54) victory.
Tarkyn Lockyer, Scott Pendlebury and Alan Didak were all influential with 30-plus possessions apiece while Travis Cloke booted four goals.
For West Coast, Mark Nicoski generated plenty of run from defence with 29 disposals while Chris Masten and Daniel Kerr were impressive.
The Eagles started brightly with Brent Staker kicking the first goal of the match at the five-minute mark.
But the rest of the term belonged to the Magpies who took control of the midfield with Ben Johnson and Lockyer particularly damaging with two goals apiece to give their side a 14-point lead at quarter-time.
The Magpies continued to dominate the midfield in the second term with Leon Davis, Pendlebury, Lockyer, Didak and Johnson doing as they pleased.
Collingwood's willingness to run hard and use the corridor paid dividends as they slammed on three goals and a super goal from the boot of Marty Clarke to blow the margin out to 40 points at the main break.
A clever snap from Staker early in the third term reduced the margin to 34 points and gave the Eagles a glimmer of hope.
But the Magpies had all the answers with Cloke booting three for the term to put the result beyond doubt.
