Port fans lend support

PORT ADELAIDE supporters have responded to the club's financial crisis with approximately 1000 people becoming members in the past 24 hours.
The Power, which is about $3.5m in debt, announced on Tuesday it would be seeking financial support from the AFL but the league said it will wait to see what benefits come from a new AAMI Stadium agreement between Port and the SANFL.
Port chief executive Mark Haysman said the spike in membership was pleasing.
"We had a really good day with membership yesterday ... we took $100,000 in turnover through membership, which was a big day for us," he said.
"I haven't got the actual number (of members). We are up to about 25,000 in terms of seat-allocated members, nearly a thousand in a day, so we are very happy with that."
Port hasn't found a major sponsor to replace Vodafone after this season but existing sponsor Reebok has agreed to extend its commitment until 2012 while brokerage company BBX and betting agency Betezy will contribute 'six-figure' amounts on an annual basis.
