Saints axe seven

ST KILDA has made major changes to its playing list ahead of next month's national draft, axing seven players on Tuesday.
The Saints delisted mdfielder Shane Birss, former Geelong forward Charlie Gardiner, Matthew Ferguson and Michael Rix whle rookies Jayden Attard, Glenn Chivers and Luke Van Rheenen were infoirmed that their services were no longer required.
Birss was traded to St Kilda from the Western Bulldogs at the end of the 2006 season in exchange for pick No.59 but could only manage 20 games in two years to take his career total to 71.
Gardiner, who played 51 matches for the Cats, was traded to the Saints in exchanged for a sixth round selection in last year's draft.
The 25-year-old played just 12 games in 2008, including the qualifying loss to his old side.
Ferguson, who was delisted and re-drafted by the Saints in 2006, played just 12 games for the club after making his debut in 2003 while Rix managed 29 games in thiree years.
Attard, who was elevated off the rookie list after fruitless season with the Brisbane Lions, played 20 games in 2007 but siuffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in round 21 lat year which prevented him from playing this season.
Meanwhile, Matthew Drain will be the club's list manager after spending a year as the football manager.
The position of football manager will be filled by former St Kilda development coach Greg Hutchison.
