ST KILDA has appointed former player Michael Nettlefold as its new chief executivce officer.
Nettlefold, who played 43 matches for the Saints and 31 for Fitzroy between 1979 and 1985, replaces Archie Fraser who re-signed last month.
The 49-year-old first joined the St Kilda board in 2000 but was only involved for about 12 months before resigning during a tumultous period for the club.
St Kilda president Greg Westaway said Nettlefold, who returned to the club last year, was the ideal replacement.
"The St Kilda board believes that Michael brings proven business acumen and a strong football pedigree to the role. He is an ideal replacement for Archie Fraser," Westaway said in a statement on Wednesday.
"The board acted swiftly to replace Archie and while these are big shoes to fill we believe we've found the best person for the job. Michael's experience, management style and existing relationships are a great asset for the St Kilda Football Club."
"Michael has been close to the club for many years and thoroughly understands our strategy and processes. We've been impressed with his commitment and passion for St Kilda. I am confident that all projects maintain the required momentum."
Saints coach Ross Lyon said Nettlefold would play a key role in helping the club continue to grow.
“Michael's proven track record and understanding of how a football club operates will ensure that St Kilda grows and builds on the progress achieved already," he said.
Nettlefold will take over the job full-time on April 27.
