ST KILDA has maintained its undefeated start to the season with a hard-fought 15-point win over Fremantle at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
It was a tight contest for the first three quarters with the Dockers in front by the barest of margins at quarter-time, scores level at the main break and the Saints one point clear at three-quarter time before they banged on the first four goals of the final term to establish a match-winning 25-point advantage, eventually prevailing 16.12 (108) to 14.9 (93).
For Fremantle the result means they now have a 3-1 win-loss record.
Brendon Goddard and Stephen Milne stepped up in the absence of injured skipper Nick Riewoldt and the suspended Justin Koschitzke, booting five goals apiece.
Nick Dal Santo was damaging in the middle with 35 possessions and two majors while Clinton Jones (33), Leigh Montagna (28) and Lenny Hayes (27) were also prolific.
Dockers captain Matthew Pavlich kicked five goals while Paul Duffield provided plenty of drive off half-back with a game-high 36 disposals.
Aaron Sandilands was dominant in the ruck with 36 hit-outs while Michael Barlow (28 touches) continued the impressive start to his AFL career.
