Saints snare Irishman

October 20th 2009 01:02
ST KILDA has snared talented Irishman Tommy Walsh.

The Saints have signed Walsh, who is regarded as one of Ireland's best Gaelic footballers, as an international rookie for two years.

The 195cm, 95kg forward was a member of the County Kerry line-up that won this year's All Ireland final and scored four points in the final.

The 21-year-old was also named the 2008 GAA Young Player of the Year.

St Kilda football manager Matthew Drain believes Walsh has what it takes to make it in the AFL.

"While he faces hard work to adapt to AFL at the highest level, we are confident that what we have seen of him proves he has enormous talent to become an important player for St Kilda," Drain said.

"Essentially, we see that Tommy Walsh, in addition with Andrew Lovett, has taken place as a first round draft pick, based on his size, ability and credentials."
