Smith to miss up to eight weeks

NORTH MELBOURNE defender Jesse Smith will miss up to eight weeks due to a recurrence of a hamstring complaint.
The club's doctor Con Mitropoulos said the latest flare-up is directly related to Smith's degenerative ankle.
"He runs with a bit of a limp and so when you have to protect a sore ankle for a long period of time you can put other soft tissues at risk and particularly the hamstring on that side, he said.
"If you can at least give him the next month or two just to get himself back to essentially where he was a few weeks ago where he'd had a good, solid five or six months of no injury, feeling good and solid training, at that stage you'll probably see him play a few games at (VFL team North) Ballarat and then come good."
Meanwhile, promising youngster Jack Ziebell and mature-aged recruit Liam Anthony, who were selected with picks nine and 43 respectively in last year's national draft will make their debuts against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.
