CARLTON midifielder Nick Stevens could miss the start of the home-and-away season after being with with a two-match ban by the match review panel.
Stevens was charged with striking Fremantle youngster Nic Suban during the third quarter of their NAB Challenge match at Bunbury on Saturday.
The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point), which equates to 125 demerit points and a one-match ban but due to his poor record and 68.75 points carried over from within the last 12 months, the penalty was increased to 206.25 points and a two-match suspension.
But Stevens can escape with a one-match ban if he enters an early guilty plea.
In some good news for Carlton, the match-day report laid against Carlton's Simon Wiggins for engaging in rough conduct against Fremantle's Greg Broughton was thrown out.
The match review panel believed that Wiggins initiated his tackle while Broughton was in possession of the ball and would not have been able to see the ball spill free. No high contact was made with the ground and the tackle by Wiggins was a single motion and not two separate actions.
Melbourne midfielder Clint Bartam is free to play in round one if he accepts a reprimand for the charge laid against him during Saturday's match against Western Bulldogs.
Bartram was charged with making forceful front-on contact with Daniel Giansiracusa but has no existing good or bad record so an early plea reduces the penalty to 93.75 points and a reprimand.
Meanwhile, Collingwood ruckman Chris Bryan was cleared over making high contact to Geelong's Joel Selwood.
It was the view of the panel that the the bulk of contact was made to Selwood's shoulder and that the impact was negligible.
