Swans account for Bombers

SYDNEY has accounted for an undermanned Essendon side by 28 points in a practice match at Blacktown Olympic Park on Saturday night.
The Swans led by 37 points at half-time and withstood a spirited fight-back from the Bombers to prevail 14.7 (91) to 9.9 (63).
While Sydney fielded close to a full-strength side with Jarrad McVeigh and former Brisbane forward Daniel Bradshaw the only notable absentees, the Dons were without a host of key players including skipper Jobe Watson, Brett Stanton, David Hille, Patrick Ryder, Mark Williams, Leroy Jetta, Dustin Fletcher and Jason Winderlich.
Jesse White was the Swans' most productive forward with three goals, Jude Bolton and excitment machine Lewis Jetta chipped in with two apiece, youngster Gary Rohan staked his claim for selection for round one with an impressive display while hard-running defender Rhyce Shaw made a successful return from knee surgery.
For Essendon, David Zaharakis booted three majors, rookie Ben Howlett won plenty of the football while injury-prone forward Scott Gumbleton got through the match unscathed.
The Swans appeared to be on course for a big win after a dominant first-half but the Bombers lifted and hit back with goals from Jason Laycock, Jay Neagle, debutant Jake Carlisle and Zaharakis to close to within 12 points.
Two goals in the space of five minutes from Jetta halted the Bombers' momentum before Neagle kicked his second.
A Mark Seaby major in the dying seconds gave Sydney a 23-point lead at three-quarter time before the Swans kicked the first two goals of the final term through White and Daniel Hannebery to put the result beyond doubt.
