Tasmania still a chance: Demetriou

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou hasn't ruled out the possibility of Tasmania having its own team.
Tasmania's push for an AFL team was given a boost yesterday with confectionary company Mars guaranteeing $4 million over three years if the bid is accepted by the AFL.
Demetriou told Fairfax Radio that while the league's focus is still on new sides on the Gold Coast and in western Sydney, Tasmania has a strong case for its own team.
"I think Tasmania could play an integral role in our national competition, and they've got a rich history of people, they are very decent people, they have served us very well with their relationship with Hawthorn, they've invested very heavily in York Park," he said.
"At a point in time, why not?"
