Welsh rushed to hospital

ESSENDON has suffered a major blow with utility Andrew Welsh sustaining a suspected broken ankle in the club's intraclub match at Whitten Oval on Friday morning.

Welsh was carried from the field on a stretcher and immediately taken to hospital.

The 25-year-old looks set to miss the entire pre-season campaign and could even miss the start of the home-and-away season.
