Worsfold forecasts changes

May 5th 2009 06:06
WEST COAST John Worsfold has forecasted several changes to his side for the clash against Melbourne at Subiaco Oval on Sunday.

One of those changes will be forced as the versatile Brent Staker is out for six weeks with an injured thumb which was sustained in the Eagles' 13-point loss to Fremantle last Saturday.

"Staker's out injured so there's one (change) and there's probably another two or three that we'll weigh up whether making a change is going to be better for the team," Worsfold said.

"Stakes played a versatile role and we'd certainly been aiming to use him as a midfielder but I've got a lot of players in good (WAFL) form so we can really change maybe the mix of the type of team we choose this week around that."

"That is a scenario we have to weigh up, but we've got some very good midfielders in some good form, Certainly Jamie McNamara, certainly Tom Swift, Tim Houlihan, Scott Selwood."

One player in the firing line is premiership forward Ashley Hansen, whose form is of concern to Worsfold.

"Ash is certainly not playing near his best form and while he hasn't been poor, hasn't been playing as well as he can," Worsfold said.

"We have been hoping his form would improve over the last couple of weeks and it hasn't got to where we'd like it to."

"We'll look at the personnel available or different types of line-ups."

Josh Kennedy has recovered from an eye injury and is waiting in the wings to replace Hansen.

Worsfold said Kennedy's form leading up to that injury would see him considered for his first match of the season.

Premiership midfielder Tyson Stenglein is also in the mix for selection after being dropped for the Dockers match, despite his WAFL side Subiaco having a bye.

Worsfold suggested the rest may have been just what Stenglein needed.

"Whether a week off to really freshen up ... was enough, that's a gut feel you can go with," he said.

"Sometimes you can just see in their demeanour that they're relaxed and they're ready to go back to their best."
